An inside look at The Drake Hotel

The Drake opened in 1890 as D. A. Small’s Hotel. At the time, the area was a major Canadian Pacific Railway hub that linked downtown with the lakeside summer homes of Toronto’s western beaches. For the next half century, the Hotel transitioned through several owners and names including Hotel Cecil and the Stardust. In 1949, Michael Lundy purchased the property, renamed it the Drake, expanded the building and created many of the improvements visible today, including the grand staircase in the lobby and the addition of a lounge and restaurant. Drake Hotel Properties purchased the building in late 2001 and undertook the extensive renovations that gave the hotel its current form. The Drake re-opened its doors in February of 2004 and has since gone on to proudly redefine the Toronto boutique hotel experience.

Great vibe. Fantastic service. My cocktail, which was hand crafted by the staff, was too heavy on the ice, but otherwise had great flavour. We had the scotch egg and shrimp on toast which were wonderful. However, we followed that up with two sushi orders which were extremely underwhelming. Everything from presentation to taste, it was almost grocery store quality sushi. We expected more from the drake.

My favorite brunch spot in town! Also, a good place for a business or casual meeting. A very nice ambiance and people. The location is great and easy to access. Staff was very professional and friendly and food just amazing.I will even go as far as saying that it's the best menu I have seen for a brunch. The menu has lots of healthy and delicious choices and the Mimosa special comes with unlimited orange and grapefruit juice. Leave room for the blueberry scones, they are sublime! And I love the idea of Brunch on a Monday!

Recently I have had to spend some time in Toronto on multiple occasions. The Drake is cool, quirky, well located BUT most of all the staff made me feel like family. No B.S. The rooms are fun and clean. The service is flawless but the warmth of the place cannot be overstated.
